Saturday Night- Malayalam movie review ⭐⭐1/2
Saturday Night - Malayalam Movie review
Saturday night is a story about 4 friends and the situation's they go through discovering the bond they share between them. Saturday Night stars Nivin Pauly, Aju Varghese, Saiju Kurup , Siju wilson along with a lot of supporting cast. This movie is directed by Roshan Andrews.
Story is very simple Stanley (Nivin Pauly), Sunil (Aju Varghese), Justin (Saiju Kurup) and Ajith (Siju Wilson) are best friends. They are always always a support for each other. But due to some circumstances they stop talking and go on their separate ways. After few years Stanley, Justin and Ajith go on a journey to find Sunil. Where is Sunil and why they are searching for him and in that journey how they re-discover their friendship is what the film tries to say in a comic way.
The problem with this film is that it just doesn't make you feel for the characters. Stanley (Nivin Pauly's) character is very confusing , they do give a childish reason for his behaviors' but it dosent seem convincing enough. They have added a lot of characters and the movie drags a bit. Its a bit over the top at places. Film talks about freedom of an individual, and in the climax the freedom part is shown to an extreme. I don't agree with the Pumpkin scene in the climax. What kind of freedom is that. Even the sudden change in the feelings of Justin and Ajith is not convincing.
There are some really good comedy scenes. Film looks colorful and the cinematography is also nice. Editing could have been more tighter. Background score is fine. Direction by Roshan Andrews is ok. This is one of Roshan Andrews weakest film. The fun element is there but very limited. This movie does remind of Dil Chahta Hain, 3 Idiots and many other movies on friendship .
Acting buy Nivin Pauly, Saiju Kurup, Siju Wilson, Aju Varghese is good , but Saiju Kurup is a little better than the others in many scenes. Grace Anthony, Saniya Iyappan, Prathap Pothen , yesteryear actress Shari all have played their roles very well.
On the whole when the movie ends you feel like there is something missing , this could have been a fun roller coaster ride , but the weak script lets you down at regular intervals.
I give this movie 2 &1/2 out of 5 stars.
